Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization

Cleaning

By irradiating with low-energy electrons, pharmaceutical raw materials, medical instruments, implants, surgical materials, disposables, fluids and products can be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized, partly in their packaging.

Fraunhofer FEP has many years of experience in the field of surface cleaning, not only in the industrial environment but also specifically in hygiene-relevant areas.

Our experts can advise you on all steps of the process chain: on the avoidance of contamination in advance, on different cleaning processes and environmentally sound process management, as well as on the control of the cleaning results.

  • Hygienic production of food, products from the fields of medical technology, life sciences and bioprocess engineering
  • Cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation of products and packaging
  • Biomedical test laboratory for the evaluation of cleaning quality
  • Seed dressing with low-energy electrons

Sterilization and Disinfection

Sterilisation process
  • Sterilization or disinfection by means of low-energy electrons, gas plasmas, X-rays and UV radiation
  • Easy-to-clean surfaces based on dirt-repellent coatings or photocatalytically active surfaces
  • Sterilization of sensitive products from the product classes: plastics, thermolabile materials, organic materials and biological tissues, ceramics, textiles, hydrogels as well as electronic components, microchips and sensors - including in packaged condition.
  • Development of individualized beam sources, e.g. for tube sterilization with toroidal sources
  • Integration of plasma sources
  • On-site sterilization with low-energy electrons
  • Development of hygienization and sterilization concepts

Textile functionalization for hygienic applications

Safety is one of the basic needs of a human being. This also includes protection against bacteria and viruses which are carriers of infectious diseases. For this reason, scientists of the Fraunhofer Society joined together and formed a consortium to functionalize textiles with germicidal features. These textiles can be used in a mouth and nose protection.
